IPL Permanent Hair Removal for Men

IPL Permanent Hair Removal for Men

Whether you suffer from unwanted back or shoulder hair, an athlete looking for a smooth-skin edge, or just want to tidy up your hair line, laser hair removal and IPL ( Intense Pulse Lighting) for men is the solution.

At The Men’s Grooming Salon we use the latest technology on hair removal SHR.

What is IPL/SHR? SHR( Super Hair Removal) is a technology that combines Laser hair removal and IPL. SHR combined with “In Motion” represents a breakthrough in permanent hair reduction with light technology. The treatment is more pleasant than with the conventional systems and your skin is better protected. The treatment is virtually pain – free.

How Does this work? The IPL targets the pigment located in the hair follicle and shaft. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle and this energy is converted to heat which results in damage to the hair follicle. This damage causes delayed re-growth of hair and, in most cases, permanent destruction of many of the hair follicles. Unlike electrolysis, which disables one hair follicle at a time, the laser reaches and treats hundreds of follicles at a time.
For men, getting rid of unwanted hair can be difficult. Male hair is often thick and coarse, and waxing can result in painful ingrown hairs which may end up looking worse than the unwanted hair did! Shaving can also be painful and has to be repeated frequently, sometimes up to twice a day if you want to avoid stubble. It does not matter if your hair is just a fine smattering, or is thick and black, men’s laser and IPL hair removal is quick and easy at The Men’s Grooming Salon in Woollahra.

So to men out there who are interested in permanent hair removal for your intimate areas, arms, legs, or back, read this.

The Treatment

Intense pulsed light releases precisely controlled strong pulses of filtered light that are absorbed by melanin, (the colour) in the hair follicle. The area you wish to have treated must be clean shaved with a small 10 cent piece sized area left un-shaved for your IPL Technician to view hair growth and colour) The pulses of light emitted, heat up the hair and destroy the cells responsible for hair growth. You will be asked to put on dark glasses to protect your eyes. A layer of chilled gel is applied to the area, the light guide is placed on the skin and a short pulse of light is released, targeting many follicles simultaneously.

The handpiece is then moved across the skin and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated. The chilled gel is removed and the area moisturised. Be aware that there is no such thing as completely permanent hair removal with any type of hair removal treatment However, IPL offers the most advanced and permanent reduction of hair growth of all the treatments currently on the market. Most individuals will achieve effective hair reduction with each treatment, with very little re-growth after the course of 6-12 treatments. Some will get complete hair reduction with no re-growth, while others will require yearly maintenance treatments. Any re-growth of hair will be weak, thin, and lighter in colour, due to the damaged hair follicles. (Blonde and Grey hair cannot be targeting with IPL) IPL for Hair reduction is required every 4 weeks for 6-12 treatments.

Before and Aftercare

Before any IPL treatment or test patch, you must first be wearing a broad spectrum 30+ Sunscreen for two weeks each and every day (no exceptions), regardless of whether you have spent time exposed to sunlight. If you are having permanent hair removal on your intimate areas you don’t need SPF unless you sunbath naked. Your skin will require a skin analysis by our qualified male Aesthetician, and if you have some concerns you could attend a Free IPL Consultation and test patch with an IPL Technician (10-20 minutes). During this time your key concerns will be addressed.

IPL Treatments are serious medical procedures. Your safety to us is of the utmost importance. IPL targets the upper and lower structures of your skin and due to this action your IPL’d skin cells will now respond differently to ingredients in your skincare , body washes, and soaps. We strongly advise against the use of supermarket and department store skincare following any IPL treatment. Ingredients such as fragrance, lanolin, artificial colours and dyes can retain heat, cause pimples, breakouts and pigmentation and defeat the purpose of your IPL treatment. If you choose to proceed with such ingredients, do so at your own risk. The Men’s Grooming Salon will not be liable for any complications caused by ingredients in your non-prescribed homecare regime. After your IPL Treatment you skin may appear slightly pink and swelling around each hair follicle is a good sign. This will subside within hours. Your target hair follicles will then over the next 2 weeks begin to fall out. Your results will be progressive over your course of 6-12 treatments.
